Grassy Creek Weekend

For the past six years I have attended the "Leg Up" ride in Grassy Creek, VA.  The weekend is spent riding horses and raising money for Therapeutic Riding Programs.

Kate and I headed up the mountain pretty early but ran into some rain.  It was kind of disappointing but we still had the entire weekend to enjoy.

Opy of course was along for the ride and always enjoys getting his picture taken.

Most of the day Friday was spent setting up everything and just hanging around camp since the weather was not very cooperative.

Saturday morning we got up and fixed a very healthy breakfast consisting of bacon and eggs.  It was good and greasy and always delicious.

Then it was time to hit the trails.

When we got back from the ride we headed over to enjoy some of the festivities.  Me, Chris, and Matt played in the cornhole tournament.  We thought we were kind of decent until we saw these guys play.  They could literally throw the bean bag directly into the hole without even hitting the board.  They were pretty amazing.  Luckily to my amazing partner we made it into the final game but lost.  It was a lot of fun and all the money goes to a great cause!

Then it was back to camp to enjoy the fire.

Sunday morning we get to worship with the wonderful people that put this event on.  We get to attend a church that is over 100 years old and sits on top of this little hill.  It is almost like out of a movie to see this cute little church.

After church we have a huge meal that is always delicious.  We then got to take a tractor ride through the dirt roads of Grassy Creek.  Mr. Halsey, who family has been living in Grassy Creek for more than four generations, takes us around and tells us stories of his life as a child growing up in Grassy Creek.  It is such a neat place to visit and even more exciting to learn about the history.

Overall it was a great weekend and we got to hang out with some pretty amazing people!  Always looking forward to next year!

  1. Oh my goodness the photo of that church!! So Beautiful! Looks like it was a perfect day for a ride! My sister-in-law is the cofounder of a riding program in our area and I just love watching the kids in the program - they benefit from it SO much!!

    1. I about die every time I see this church. It is so perfect in so many ways. During the church service the usually invite some of the kids from the theraputic riding program and it never leaves a dry eye in the house. The program is amazing! That is awesome that your sister in law is involved in such an awesome program. I would love to volunteer in something like this!
