Blogtober | Day 2 | Dream Job

Helene in Between Blogtober

I didn't quiet make the first day of Blogtober but the second day isn't a bad way to start.  The second day of Blogtember's prompt is Dream Job When you Were Little / What is it now.

When I was little and growing up I had aspirations of being a computer scientist.  Yes if you are thinking "dang she is a nerd" in your head you are completely right.  I was a nerd, I loved computers and wanted to know everything about them and what made them work.  I wanted to write programs for people and make peoples lives easier.

As I got a little older I was thinking of ways that I could combine my love of computers with my love of horses.  I wanted to write a program for an equestrian center and have screens by all of the horses stalls that provided all of their information.  There would be access points throughout the barn to keep up with daily information and any new horses that may come in.  If a horse changed stalls then all they had to do was enter the stall name the horse was going to and their information would automatically be transferred to that screen at the correct stall.

See, it makes in my head that this was how I was going to make it big.

I attended college and began majoring in computer science and started out loving it.  Programming was my nitch.  Well it was until I entered into my junior year in college and it became a pain in my hind end.  I was spending almost eight hours a day in the computer lab and writing programs.  In my junior year in college I switched over to Computer Information Systems.

Now that I am finished with college I have been working for a furniture company for 12 years and I work in graphic design.  We handle all the websites, images, and any type of literature that is produced for 8 different companies.  It is a challenging job but I absolutely love it.  It is different every day but I get to work with computers and photography everyday and I couldn't be happier working where I do.

Our dreams change over the years and sometimes they stay the same.  It doesn't matter what you are doing as long as you are doing something that you love!

  1. WOW! So cool you are kind of working in the field you wanted to! Graphic design is amazing, I have no talent for it, but I love what people are able to do!

    1. I know at least I ended up in computers and to save my sanity I think it was the right direction. I didn’t when I first started here but I have learned so much in 12 years and it is so fun being creative!

  2. I did one year Computer Science, and then took a year off and started with something completely different, I've always loved computers!

    1. Computer Science was so much fun when I started but once we got really serious my junior year I found out it wasn’t for me! Spending all of my free time in the lab trying to get through code and compile code and blah blah blah. it was to boring and I didn’t have the patience for it any more. I applaud those that have gone on and made a career out of it because it takes a special person to do that!

  3. My brain jumped to "robotic horses" when I saw this. Not sure why. I'd love to be better at programming, looking at coding too long gives me a headache!

    1. It can be very time consuming and confusing! I used to get so frustrated. But robotic horses would be very cool :-)
