Building Our Home | Part 1 - Getting started

A few months ago we began the journey of looking for a house.  We decided that we were ready for the next phase in our lives.  It has been a journey and one that I want to share.

The first part of our journey started with looking for a house with some land.  We looked at a lot of beautiful farms but we could just never find anything that suited us.  We found a place we thought we would like but ended up backing out after a few weeks.

After many failed attempts we decided it was best for us to stay on the farm that my husband was raised on.  From there we started looking at different housing options, weather to build, or just put something in.  We shopped around and decided on a nice mobile home from a large mobile home distributor.  Everything was going great.  We got approved for the financing, picked out our mobile home, and were saving like crazy.  A few months passed and not a lot was going on.  So I started making a few phone calls to see what the hold up was and apparently NOTHING was going on.  Within  a week we were lied to multiple times and the sales people always seemed to be busy when we would call.  We started becoming very frustrated with what was going on.  The last straw was when I called to check on the perk test and it was scheduled for the next day and we had no idea and neither did the guy that was doing our grading!!

Soon after this we headed off and started looking at another place.  There had to be something out there that was better.  We sat down and really talked about what we wanted and we both felt that this was not the right direction for us.

The decision was also made after talking to several other close friends that had purchased modular and mobile homes.  All of them had started out at the same larger retailer that we had started with, and all of them had a similar problem with them and they all ended up going with someone else.

I started looking around and found a small self owned mobile home distributor about an hour away.  We took a leap of faith and drove out there one evening to see what they had.  We found a home that we felt was right for us, put a deposit down.  So three weeks later we have moved so much faster, have super customer service, and feel so much better about this house.

In the next few weeks, I will be posting house updates to let you know how our journey is going.  We are very excited to share this with everyone, because it sure has been a long time coming!

  1. Congratulations and good luck. It will seem scary, but after it is all said and done it will be worth it.
